Real Madrid defender Eder Militao has revealed he was upset over Karim Benzema's decision to leave the Spanish giants for Saudi Arabia this summer.
In one of the most surprising moves of the summer transfer window, the French striker opted not to extend his stay at the Bernabeu and instead moved to the middle east to sign for Al-lttihad.
The 35-year-old penned a three-year deal with the Saudi side worth a reported £86million a season and joins N'Golo Kante at the Jeddah-based Saudi Pro League champions.
Speaking to the press via Madrid Xtra, Benzema's former teammate Militao was asked about the striker's departure and admitted that is was sad to see him leave the club.
'Benzema? Of course we were upset that he left.' The Brazilian said.
'For me, he's the best number nine in the world. But life goes on, we now have to structure ourselves again.'
Since Benzema's exit, Madrid have been linked with several replacements, including moves for Harry Kane and Lautaro Martinez.
However, they have so far only confirmed a season-long loan deal for Espanyol's former Stoke and Newcastle striker Joselu. Adding to the £113m they paid for Jude Bellingham and the arrival of Turkish youngster Arda Guler from Fenerbahce.
Benzema spent 14 years with Los Blancos, scoring 354 times in 648 appearances to make him second only to Cristiano Ronaldo as the club's highest-ever goal-scorer.
In his time with Madrid he won the Champions League an incredible five times, as well as being a La Liga winner on four separate occasions.
He will now link-up with former Tottenham and Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, who is currently the manager of his new club in Saudi.
