Manchester United fans heaped praise on Andre Onana despite ending up on the losing side in the club’s latest pre-season clash.
The £42million signing from Inter Milan was handed his first start for the Red Devils in the against Real Madrid in Houston on Thursday morning.
Unfortunately for the Cameroonian, his first start was not the way he would have envisaged as United fell to a 2-0 defeat to the La Liga giants.
Onana was beaten in the sixth minute as Jude Bellingham’s sumptuous lob opened the scoring for Los Blancos.
There was little Onana could have done to stop Madrid’s second goal when Joselu’s exquisite overhead kick finished off Erik ten Hag’s side in the dying stages.
Despite conceding twice, enthused United fans took to social media and were delighted by what they saw from their new No.1.
One fan wrote: “He was very good. 1st goal was offside and 2nd goal was unstoppable.”

After 12 years with David de Gea between the posts, Onana represents a new era for United and one to suit Ten Hag’s philosophy of playing out from the back, starting with the goalkeeper.
Onana’s ability with his feet was a key factor in Ten Hag swooping for the 27-year-old and was pleased with his display against Madrid.
