Egypt boss gives Mohamed Salah update as Arsenal and Liverpool wait amid injury concern
Egypt's manager Rui Vitoria has given an update on Mohamed Salah's injury. The Liverpool star was forced off during Egypt's Africa Cup of Nations clash against Ghana on Thursday evening.
The 31-year-old left the field on the stroke of half-time and will now have scans to determine the extent of the issue. It's unclear if he'll be fit for Egypt's next match against Cape Verde.
Speaking after the game, Vitoria insisted it's too early to tell how serious the injury is, but he hopes it's «not dangerous». «I hope not [a big problem]. We don't know yet what the problem is. I hope it's not a big problem but it was a problem in the first half,» he said.
«It was difficult timing for us because in the second half, we could only make two substitutions. But now, I don't know. It's early to see something, I think it's not dangerous but let's see if Salah recovers.»
Liverpool will be keeping a close eye on the situation as Salah could miss more games depending on Egypt's progress in the tournament. Arsenal and Manchester City are also likely to be keeping tabs on developments, given they are fighting for the title alongside the Reds.
Cape Verde will aim to widen their lead at the top of Group B with a win against Mozambique on Friday. Egypt are currently on two points from two matches, with Ghana and Mozambique trailing with one point each.
