Ellyse Perry, last Australian to score a goal in a football World Cup quarterfinal lauds Matildas’ phenomenal performance

Believe it or nor all-rounder Ellyse Perry is the last Australian to score a goal in a football World Cup quarterfinal in Matildas’ 1-3 defeat against Sweden in 2011 FIFA World Cup.

The Australia women’s cricket team all-rounder is delighted the how her former team-mates take the football world – and the Australian sporting public – by storm.

“I don’t think we’ve ever really seen anything like this,” Perry said on Thursday.

Perry made her international debut in football at 16 – playing her first match for Australia against Hong Kong in 2007. earned 18 caps and scored three goals for Australia between 2007 and 2012.
