England make kit alteration for Belgium fixture days after St George's Cross fury

England will wear nameless shirts in the second half of Tuesday's friendly match against Belgium at Wembley.

This significant change in the kit is linked to a campaign raising awareness for dementia, with the friendly dedicated to the Alzheimer's Society International as part of a partnership between the FA and the charity. This isn't a first for the Three Lions team.

They've previously shown support for the charity by wearing nameless shirts, such as when they defeated Switzerland 2-1 back in March 2022. «We hope this striking gesture with the players' shirts will once again get fans across the country talking and thinking about the signs and symptoms of dementia,» said Kate Lee, CEO of the Alzheimer's Society.

She added: «The shirts will then be auctioned off, to help raise funds to support Alzheimer's research. By using football to shine a spotlight and increase awareness of dementia symptoms, we hope to not only encourage fans to donate towards our early diagnosis research but also to support their loved ones just as much as they support their football team.

»This means taking crucial first steps in seeking a diagnosis if they suspect someone they care about may be affected. A diagnosis can be daunting but it's better to know."

The change in the kit has caused a lot of talk after St George's Cross on the England kit was changed by Nike, reports the Daily Star. The American sportswear company, put purple and blue stripes across the cross on England's new kit for Euro 2024.
