Eric Dier joins Bayern Munich from Tottenham on loan with option to buy
Eric Dier has departed Tottenham Hotspur to seal a January transfer move to Bayern Munich. The centre-back's departure to Germany comes after a nine-and-a-half year stay in north London.
The 29-year-old, who arrived in Munich on Thursday morning to complete the formalities of his transfer, will now be reunited with former Spurs teammate Harry Kane in Bavaria after the striker made the move to the Allianz Arena back in August. Dier joins Bayern on loan with an option to make the move permanent.
Reports from Germany state that a permanent move to Bayern Munich could see Tottenham earn €2-2.5million for the defender. Due to the player's contract status at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs faced the prospect of losing the experienced defender for absolutely nothing in the summer come the end of his deal.
Dier's move to the Allianz Arena comes after Bayern's failed attempt to sign Radu Dragusin ahead of Spurs. Despite making a late move for the player and offering a more lucrative package and Champions League football, the Romanian opted for Tottenham instead.
Dier will now have the opportunity for a fresh start in Germany after a frustrating season for the player.
