Everton’s reasons for waiting until the start of the 2025/26 campaign rather than making a mid-season move to their new stadium have been outlined as work steps up for the final year of construction on the Blues’ future home.
Everton moved on site at Bramley-Moore Dock in August 2021 and the build remains on course to finish by this December. However, the first team will not be departing Goodison Park until the end next season (2024/25).
Alix Waldron, principal lead for stadium development project management at Everton, told Sky Sports: “We should get completion of construction in this calendar year. We then have to carry out test events for our safety certificate which we’re hoping to do in the early part of 2025.

“We’re obviously so used to what we do down at Goodison, we’ve got to make sure everybody is ready for the first game in August ’25.”
Everton Stadium – which remains the working title for the 52,888 capacity development on the Mersey waterfront with the club sharing an update on a naming rights partner on Wednesday – will be one of the most environmentally friendly and sustainable major football venues ever constructed.
