Thoughts on the game?
Very sad and disappointed with the final result. It was a tie of very small margins. In the first leg we conceded two very poor goals. That has a big effect on the tie. We were still alive and came here today I’m really proud of the players. How they stood up, the way they played and what they tried do especially in the first half.
It was a game where you could see an error, or an individual magic moment was going to decide the tie. The margins are so small. We didn’t defend our box well enough in that action. And after scoring everything and throwing everything we did not have enough to score a goal and go through the tie.
Was there a lack of spark in the second half like vs Villa?
Credit to the opponent as well. It’s hard to break the opponents down when they play in the manner that they did — which they never normally do. We had our moments, especially in the first half. We struggled to keep that rhythm and momentum in the second half. We tried with the changes in a different way.
They’re never games with big big chances. Very rare to see that at this stage of the Champions League. It’s the moment to be next to our players, to thank them for the journey that we’ve lived together. Unfortunately it ended today. It is painful but we have to learn.
Was there tiredness and did Bayern have more belief?
I don’t know if it was about belief. The goal put them in a really good position. They kept adapting and making changes to defend even deeper. I saw the players really willing to try their best. It wasn’t enough. It’s true that we lacked the magic to unlock the game and open that door when the game requires. We didn’t have it. That’s why we are out.
