Former Arsenal chairman David Dein has called Everton's 10-point a 'disaster' for other clubs such as Manchester City and Chelsea.
Everton were struck with a 10-point deduction by an independent commission after the Premier League charged them with breaking FFP rules.
While the Toffees appealed immediately, it has plunged them into the relegation zone and their future in the top division is hugely under threat.
But Everton are not the only team who have been charged with City and Chelsea facing heavy punishments for serious breaches of financial guidelines.
And Dein reckons that both clubs will be shaking in their boots after the news regarding Everton.
Speaking to talkSPORT, the ex-Arsenal chairman said: «One has to differentiate between the Premier League charging and what happens after that.
»It is an independent tribunal, the Premier League actually have nothing to do with the result and the decision.
«The Premier League do the charging but do not do the judgement.
»To me, it seems extortionate but there you are. It could have a knock-on effect at other clubs and that would be a disaster."
The points deduction has been widely condemned by many football fans for being excessive, considering that City and Chelsea remain unpunished for their alleged breaches.
It is a feeling shared by Dein, who believes that Everton have been treated unfairly.
He continued: «I actually thought the penalty was excessive. I'd probably go as far as to say over the top.
