Former Arsenal chairman David Dein has claimed that Everton's recent point deduction is a «disaster» to other clubs amid a host of Financial Fair Play concerns. The Toffees were the second team this year to be sent to an independent commission regarding potential breach of rules.
With the one charge put against them, the panel oversaw the case last month, with a decision being made in mid-November over the outcome. The side were found to have breached the rules, with the punishment decided at a ten point deduction to their current tally — subject to appeal.
The Merseyside outfit put out a statement slamming the decision, claiming they were «shocked» by the outcome reached. There was also a curious sentence towards the end, which reads: «The Club will also monitor with great interest the decisions made in any other cases concerning the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.»
That alone suggested that there were further cases to be answered within the Premier League in regards to those financial rules and the proportionate punishment. One of those could be Manchester City, as they were the first of the two teams sent to an independent panel after the league alleged 115 breaches spanning from 2009 to 2018.
This was also slammed by City in a club statement, though given the sheer number of charges put against them, it is predicted that years of deliberating will be made over whether they are guilty or not. There have also been accusations made against Chelsea in recent weeks.
