Referee for Man City vs Liverpool named
Chris Kavanagh will referee Liverpool's top-of-the-table Premier League clash against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
The 38-year-old official has already overseen two Liverpool games this season. The Reds emerged victorious from West Ham United and Nottingham Forest's respective visits to Anfield.
In total during his time at the centre of Liverpool fixtures, Kavanagh has only shown 17 yellow cards in 15 matches. However, it is his time on VAR that he is least fondly remembered by Reds supporters after failing to send off Harry Kane for a reckless lunge on Andy Robertson during an ill-tempered 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur in December 2021.

In the same fixture, Robertson was later sent off for a challenge on Emerson Royal, which was upgraded after on-field referee Paul Tierney had sought advice from Kavanagh and the VAR team.
“This red card you can give but this was proof that VAR was there today because before that we thought he might not be in his office," said Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp of the decision to send Robertson off. "I think we all agree that Harry Kane should have seen a red card, and he didn’t."
Greater Manchester-born Kavanagh will be joined on Saturday by assistants Simon Bennett and Dan Robathan as well as fourth official Thomas Bramall. Stuart Atwell and Tim Wood will be in position as part of the VAR team at Stockley Park.
Victory at the Etihad will take Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table. They currently sit one point behind leaders and defending champions City by a point.
