Chelsea fans finally have something to cheer as Mauricio Pochettino confirmed the return of Christopher Nkunku.
The France star has not made a competitive appearance for the Blues since signing from RB Leipzig in a £52million deal over the summer.
Nkunku impressed in pre-season before suffering a knee injury which required surgery and ruled him out for four months.
Chelsea have struggled desperately in his absence but the 26-year-old could make his debut at home to Sheffield United on Saturday.
“Very good news,” manager Pochettino said on Nkunku’s recovery.
“He will be in the squad and feel the competition and be with his teammates.
«But we need to be calm and quiet, not to put all the pressure on him.”
It is a rare piece of good team news for the Blues, who will be without goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and defender Reece James for extended periods.
Pochettino also lost defender Marc Cucurella during a damaging 2-0 defeat to Everton earlier this month.
Nevertheless, Chelsea fans believe Nkunku can be their saving grace and help salvage a dismal campaign which has left them 12th in the table.
One wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: „Our season just started.“
Another said: „Nkunku ball this weekend. Our season begins now!!“
A third put: „The wait is finally over. Tears in my eyes.“
