Chelsea fired themselves into the fourth round of the FA Cup thanks to a 35-minute period of second half dominance in their 4-0 win over Preston North End.
It was a wasteful first half from the Blues, with Mauricio Pochettino's side failing to find the breakthrough against a stubborn Lilywhites side that looked dangerous on the counter attack. Raheem Sterling had two of his shots saved by goalkeeper Freddie Woodman while Enzo Fernandez's point-blank header found itself floating into the arms of the Preston shot-stopper.
However, Chelsea cranked it up after the break as they finally found the opener through a nice header by Armando Broja for the star's second goal of the season. He went close again a few minutes afterwards with another glancing header, this time clipping the crossbar in a game that could have seen him net a hat-trick.
But it was Thiago Silva who netted the Blues' second of the match, breaking away from his defensive mark and nodding in Cole Palmer's corner. Sterling then floated in a brilliant free kick past Woodman to make it 3-0 before Enzo Fernandez wrapped it up with a scrappy finish which took a lengthy VAR check to finally be awarded.
The result means the Blues are back in the hat for the FA Cup fourth round where they could face a whole host of sides from the National League all the way up to a Premier League opponent. Here, football.london has rounded up what the national media thought of the win...
