Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher believes the decision to disallow Manchester City's second goal against Liverpool was the correct one after Alisson Becker was fouled.

Trent Alexander-Arnold would equalise 12 minutes later to secure a point for Jurgen Klopp's side, after Erling Haaland handed the hosts the lead. The Liverpool defender found his way into the middle before firing low into the bottom corner to keep the Reds in the early title race.

Gallagher was in agreement with the decision, as he believes that irrespective of the velocity of the contact, it unfairly impacts the goalkeeper.
"Not going to answer that question (is there enough in the contact) because they say goalkeepers are overprotected but you only have to knock them slightly off balance and they've lost stability altogether," he said on Sky Sports' Refs Watch.
"He can't catch the ball, loses the ball, I think he knocks him enough off balance to give a foul.
"When you hit that (arm) it knocks him and loses the ball. Definitely (the right decision)."
There were complaints surrounding the disallowed goal with the view being that the decision was soft from the official. Virgil van Dijk claimed that there was a clear foul from the Switzerland defender.
