Get French Football News sat down with Brest’s sporting director, Grégory Lorenzi, to decrypt their success.
How do you explain Brest’s surprising success this season?
When you’re Stade Brestois, when you start the league season and especially when we know we have quite limited means, naturally, you don’t think that you can be in the position that we are today. But beyond that, what we have shown since the beginning of the season, what the players have shown, is that we deserve to be there. Today, the club has a positive dynamic. Beyond the results, I feel as though the club has been growing and solidifying itself for the past five or six years. In that time, there has been a continuity in terms of work. I want to keep a distance between the project and the sporting results. We have a project that we want to develop. On the one hand, you have the results, which can of course accelerate the project, but in any case, the results themselves shouldn’t contribute to the evolution of the project.
Today, we’re involved in a project that is constantly evolving, that is in the process of structuring itself, that is continuing to professionalise itself and that of course is trying to improve, because that is always the ultimate goal. Beyond that, you have these exceptional results this season, which means that we’re talking about Brest relatively positively. That makes us happy.
