This was always a grudge match, but the Viola ultras left the Curva Fiesole empty in protest at the decision to go ahead during devastating floods in the region that left at least seven dead. It was a strong start from the hosts, but Juve opened the scoring when Filip Kostic got away from makeshift right-back Alessandro Parisi on an Adrien Rabiot pass and rolled across for Fabio Miretti to tap in at the near post from six yards, getting in front of Lucas Martinez Quarta. It was the midfielder’s first goal for his hometown club.
Nico Gonzalez forced a tough reaction save out of Wojciech Szczesny on the half-volley from the edge of the box, then moments later Rolando Mandragora robbed Fabio Gatti at the by-line for Christian Kouame to skim the woodwork from a tricky angle.
Rabiot was booked for going in late on Cristiano Biraghi and will be suspended for next week’s match with Cagliari.
On the resulting free kick, Biraghi curled it over the wall only for a spectacular Szczesny save to claw it
