A former footballer has opened a new sports bar on Bold Street in Liverpool city centre.
Lohan Munhoz de Oliveira, who has previously played in the Brazilian top flight, is the co-owner and co-founder of Maracanã Sport Bar in the city centre. Maracanã first opened last year as a restaurant but Lohan has now decided to relaunch the venue as a sports bar.
The dad-of-two, who most recently had a stint at Bootle FC, believes that Liverpool is the perfect place to open his bar dedicated to sports, thanks to a strong Brazilian influence at Anfield in particular in recent years thanks to now-departed stars including Fabinho and Roberto Firmino, as well as current goalkeeper Alisson. He hopes to bring his own personal experiences of South American culture to the city.

Lohan Munhoz told the ECHO: "I played professionally for 17 years. My debut was with Athletico (Paranaense) in the Brazilian premier league, and later on I played in Israel and the Dubai premier league for seven years, making a move to the Brazilian championship, then later on played in countries such as Germany, France, Greece and Latvia, where I went on to meet met my wife and both of my kids were born."
The footballer turned property developer then moved to Liverpool, where he has been living since 2020. He retired from football but still played for Bootle FC until 2021 before properly throwing himself into the hospitality industry.
He says Maracanã Sport Bar, named after the iconic home of Brazilian football in Rio de Janeiro, will offer a place for people who want to watch a sporting event or enjoy some casual dining. Food on the menu
