Wesley Fofana has dropped a cryptic injury update on social media as he continues to rebuild his fitness. The 23-year-old defender ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the summer and, while he's not expected to make his full return just yet, he seems to be making good progress.
Fofana has been very unfortunate with injuries in recent years; in 2021, he broke his leg in a pre-season friendly against Villarreal and was ruled out for over seven months. Then, in March 2022, he eventually returned and played the remainder of the season before swapping the King Power Stadium for Stamford Bridge a few months later.
In October 2022, Fofana was ruled out for two months before suffering another knee issue which extended his absence into the New Year. Upon his return in February, the Frenchman went on to make 13 appearances for Chelsea in the English top-fli ght.
Then in the summer, Fofana was dealt another setback which he continues to nurse. While it remains to be seen exactly when he'll be available for selection again, his latest Instagram story suggests that he's back on the training pitches at Cobham now.
Fofana posted an image of two pairs of boots on blue astroturf alongside some clumps of turf. He also captioned his post with a tiger emoji – an animal which has connotations of protection, vitality, strength and unpredictability.
Nevertheless, Fofana was expected to play a crucial role for the Blues under Mauricio Pochettino. When asked about the Frenchman's setback in the summer, the Chelsea manager insisted that he and the club will do everything they can to help and support him during his recovery.
