Christophe Dugarry has hit out at Eden Hazard following the retired winger's revealing interview about his struggles at Real Madrid.
Hazard secured a £150m move to Real Madrid in 2019 after enjoying a stunning campaign at Chelsea that saw him scored 21 goals and lead the Blues to Europa League glory.
But his career in Spain proved to be a major disappointment as he netted just seven times in 76 appearances across four seasons before hanging up his boots last year. Hazard turned up to his first pre-season at Madrid a stone overweight, and admitted he 'let go of myself' that summer once the deal went through.
After reading Hazard's eye-opening comments, Dugarry, who won the 1998 World Cup with France, feels the Belgian star failed his manager and team-mates by not being honest about his commitment to the cause at the time.
Speaking to RMC Sport, Dugarry said: 'It’s very easy to say this now but it should have been said before. It’s when you sign your multi-million contract that you should tell the president that you’re going out that evening.'
'Did he say to his manager and teammates that he was getting drunk and that he didn’t like running in training? Football is a professional and team sport. You have obligations.
'You can’t respect everything to the letter but to promote this nonsense is a shame. Hazard was a great player but it’s a shame for the supporters who paid to see him play when he was drunk the day before.
'His interview is making fun of the world of football. If you want to act like a courageous guy, you have to say it before. Why didn’t he tell Zidane this before being signed by Real Madrid?'
