But after that he pointed to a “perfect storm” of problems as his side collapsed to a 6-0 thrashing at Stamford Bridge. In his post-match press conference, following his broadcast responsibilities, Dyche responded to questions over the performance and what it means for a club in a deepening relegation fight. ECHO: James Tarkowski has called that performance embarrassing, do you agree with him?
Dyche: It is certainly miles off where we want to be. That is without a shadow of a doubt, there are no excuses for that. It was miles off the mark, miles away from where we have been, we certainly don’t want to revisit that. It is a stark reminder that if you don’t do the basics well. It was an odd game in the sense the game plan we worked on started correctly, we should have scored early, we should have a chance to take the game on, we conceded one, that can happen, but the goals were alarmingly poor. The hard yards that it takes - just simple tackling, reading the play, anticipating the game.
