Manager Harry Catterick famously labelled his legendary Everton centre-half and captain Brian Labone as “The last of the Corinthians” but the Blues are now being linked with a move for a player from a Brazilian namesake club.
Gabriel Moscardo plays in midfield for the Sao Paulo-based Corinthians, the two times FIFA Club World Cup winners (2000 and 2012) although the 18-year-old wasn’t even born for the former when holders Manchester United controversially withdrew from the FA Cup to take part in the competition. TEAMtalk report that Everton and Fulham have both been scouting South America for clever signings and Moscardo has cropped up on both their radars.
The Blues were linked last month with a move for Moscardo’s team-mate Wesley Gassova, another 18-year-old who plays on the wing for Corinthians with sources claiming he was open to a Goodison Park transfer. Everton’s prospective new owners 777 Partners have a global networks of scouts and analysts plus they already own a club in Brazil in the shape of Vasco da Gama in Rio de Janeiro.
