As far as weeks go, it was one of Harry Kane’s worst.
The Bayern Munich striker started with a brutal 3-0 defeat to Bundesliga title rivals Bayer Leverkusen, and ended with a 3-1 embarrassment against Bochum in a must-win clash.
In between that, they lost the first leg of the Champions League last 16 tie against Lazio 1-0, making it three defeats on the bounce.
Already out of the DFB Pokal to third-tier Saarbrucken, and with the DFL Super Cup lost on his debut, it’s now looking likely that Kane could continue his astonishing record of never winning a professional trophy.
That’s despite leaving Tottenham in a £100million deal to move to a Bayern Munich team where trophies are almost-certain.
The top-of-the-table clash against Leverkusen was billed as a potential title decider, and with Xabi Alonso’s team beating Heidenheim on Saturday, they now have a commanding eight-point lead with 12 games to play.
Reacting to the Bochum shock on social media, Kane wrote: “No hiding from a tough week with performances and results not at the level we expect from ourselves.
“Got to pull together as a group and push forward — big run of important games coming up to turn it round.”
The result was a huge shock to Bayern but maybe not so much for Kane given his history.
The England captain is a regular user of X, formerly Twitter, and often posts to his 3.9million followers after games.
However, it’s not the first time he’s apologised for a ‘tough week’ having written the words on four previous occasions.
In fact, since signing up on the social media platform, Kane has used the word ‘tough’ to explain a bad result, week, or even season.
