Bayern Munich were handed their first Bundesliga defeat of the season in humiliating style.
The winners of the last 11 German league titles were torn to bits 5-1 away at Eintracht Frankfurt in a collapse unbefitting of the European giants.
England captain and £100million summer signing from Tottenham, Harry Kane, managed just three shots, without a single hitting the target during an afternoon to forget.
But in truth, the story was about Bayern’s disastrous defence, with right back Noussair Mazraoui withdrawn at half-time after a staggeringly bad 45 minutes.
Thomas Tuchel’s call at 3-1 didn’t stop the leak, though, with centre backs Dayot Upamecano and Min-jae Kim seemingly getting worse as the game went on.
That 3-1 deficit at half-time was Bayern’s worst score at the break in almost 20 years, last achieving the low in 2004 against Werder Bremen.
But the full-time result leaves Bayern three points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen, who could extend their advantage to six points on Sunday with a win over Stuttgart, although they would have played a game more.
As for Kane, the 30-year-old is infamously trophyless so far in his 14-year professional career, and things may be about to get worse.
His debut for Bayern came in a 3-0 Super Cup defeat to Leipzig, missing his chance to easily pick up a first piece of silverware.
Another opportunity went missing in November when Bayern were knocked out of the DFB Pokal by third tier Saarbrucken with Kane left on the bench.
The striker had been near-flawless in the Bundesliga and Champions League, netting 22 goals in 14 games combined.
