Harry Redknapp reveals the January transfer Arsenal need to seal to win the Premier League

Harry Redknapp believes signing Karim Benzema could help Arsenal win the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners continue to be linked with a number of potential signings in the January transfer window. Business across the Premier League has been largely quiet throughout the month, with the deadline set on February 1.

Benzema's future has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks, which has led to rumours that he could move to the Premier League, in particular Arsenal. The France international only left Real Madrid last summer to join Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League.

The 36-year-old has scored 12 goals in 20 appearances since he made the move to Saudi Arabia. Despite the speculation around his future, Benzema's lawyer recently dismissed the idea that the striker could leave Al-Ittihad this month.

Redknapp has explained why the signing of Benzema would make a difference in helping Arsenal challenge for the Premier League title. However, the former Tottenham Hotspur boss did acknowledge that were Arsenal to sign Benzema, it would not be for the long term.

“Where does he go now, Benzema? He’s a gamble," Redknapp told the BBC's Transfer Gossip Daily podcast.

«It’s short-term. Could you take him to Arsenal until the end of the season? He might come in and get the goals to push them up and win the title for them.

»They’re not far away, they're still in the running even though they've had a bit of a blip — could he be the one to make the difference? They have great players to make opportunities for him, it’s a big gamble with massive wages."
