Former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness believes the German giants would not have competed with Chelsea for the signing of Moises Caicedo as he cost «too much money».
The midfielder arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer from Brighton for a fee which could reach £115million. Caicedo joined on an eight-year deal with the option of a further year having turned down Liverpool who also reached an agreement with the Seagulls.
It has been a difficult debut campaign in West London for the Ecuadorian who has made 29 appearances so far for Chelsea. The 22-year-old has struggled for form having failed to score and providing just a single assist for Mauricio Pochettino's team.
And now ex-Bayern chief Hoeness has delivered an honest verdict on the money paid by Chelsea for Caicedo. He believes the Bundesliga giants would have never paid such a fee for him.
«I looked at Moises Caicedo. I thought to myself: Spend €127m on him? Others are welcome to do that. But FC Bayern will certainly never do that because it is simply too much money for us – regardless of the qualities of this player,» he told Frankfurter Allgemeine, via SportWitness.

Pochettino has recently defended Caicedo amid his struggles in a Chelsea shirt. He compared the Ecuadorian's start to life in West London to Zinedine Zidane's at Real Madrid.
«Remember when Zidane or Kaka went to Real Madrid — they paid a big amount of money,» Pochettino said. «Zidane was 26 or 27. I think it took seven or eight months for him to perform because expectation is massive and adaptation is difficult.
