Harvey Elliott has admitted he is prepared to knock on Jurgen Klopp’s door regarding his Liverpool starting opportunities should he deem it necessary.
The 21-year-old has impressed for the Reds this season, returning three goals and seven assists from 44 appearances. However, only 21 of his outings have come from the start.
In impressive form in recent weeks, the midfielder, who came off the bench to win a penalty in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United, is well-placed to start against Atalanta in the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday night if Klopp rotates his side.
And while Elliott admits he is not one to kick up a fuss, he also conceded that he does want to be starting more games for Liverpool.

“I’m young but not a kid anymore,” he said. “I’m a man, I’m growing up quickly and I feel like I need to take responsibilities into my own hands.
“If that means knocking on the gaffer’s door, it’s going to have to happen. At the same time, I do need to wait for my opportunities, I do need to be patient.
“But when I get them, I just want to take them. I want to cement my spot in the team.
“For me it’s just about making sure I’m analysing the game (when I come on), seeing where I can exploit different teams. Seeing the areas I can put myself in and attack from that way.
“Quite frankly, I want to be starting games. I want to be the player walking out rather than coming on. It doesn’t mean I’m not grateful for coming on the pitch.
