According to a brief statement released by the club, Cardoso will be tasked with running the development academy. Club director Flemming Berg has described the appointment as a 'pivotal moment' for the club's ambitions.
"Hiring a new Head of Academy isn’t just a recruitment process; it’s a pivotal moment in shaping the future of our club," Berg said via the club's official website.
"Paulo comes with extensive knowledge from the highest international level and has worked with some of the absolute best players in the world like Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, Bruma."
Over the course of last season, Sundowns have roped in some of the most talented young players across the country, including 16-year-old Siyabonga Mabena, who was in action for The Brazilians in the DStv Premiership against Kaizer Chiefs.
Cardoso joins Sundowns from Brazilian side Fluminense but the UEFA A Licence holder has also worked as Technical Director at KZN SAFA Academy and Technical Consultant at the Portuguese FA among his other posts.
