Karim Benzema (36) has blamed his Al-Ittihad teammates for his poor performances in Saudi Arabia in the latest signs of tension between the former Ballon d’Or winner and the club he joined in the summer.
The Frenchman has not had an easy time since swapping Real Madrid for Saudi Arabia, his performances have been a lightning rod for supporters’ frustrations, with the forward a far cry from the player who left Spain.
There have been numerous reports suggesting that he is unhappy in the Gulf State and during the January transfer window there were rumours that the forward was attempting to force an early exit from his commitment to the club.
The team sit fourth in the league, a far cry from where they expected to be when they decided to pay the striker 200 million euros per year for his talents. And after Al-Ittihad’s latest disappointment, a 0-0 draw against fifth-placed Al-Taawoun, Benzema finally hit back at the growing criticism.
When asked by Action with Walid why they were not seeing the same player that was at Real Madrid, the player laughed “ It’s because it’s not the same game, it’s not the same players, I need to be helped . I need help on the pitch. I can’t win the game alone. I need a lot of things. ”
