Alan Shearer has recognised Harvey Barnes' poor decision-making played a major part in Liverpool coming away with three points against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.
One goal to the good during the second half, Barnes opted to go for glory when running through on goal instead of picking out the unmarked Callum Wilson. This resulted in the former Leicester City man seeing an effort blocked before the hosts lost possession of the ball.
It was a miss that proved to be costly as Liverpool soon after went down the opposite end of the pitch to score through Darwin Nunez, who later found the back of the net a second time to snatch a victory against all the odds at St James' Park.
Fully aware of how big a moment Barnes' opportunity was to settle the match, Shearer said on Match of the Day 2: "This is the turning point for the game. Harvey Barnes had a really good performance a couple of weeks ago, but he has really cost Newcastle because that is a simple ball across. Two-nil and the game is over with."

"When you miss chances and go all sloppy and don’t put obvious crosses into the box then you run the risk of being punished and Liverpool punished Newcastle. Well done Liverpool," he added in a Twitter post.
