French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed his desire to see French superstar Kylian Mbappé (25) participate in this summer’s Olympic Games that are set to take place in Paris from July 26th to August 11th, reports L’Équipe.
Thierry Henry, the coach of the French Olympic football team, has already placed on record his desire to call up the PSG striker as one of three permitted overage players, with all but three of the squad required to be under the age of 23.
For now, it appears to be unlikely that Mbappé will be part of Henry’s squad, given that he will be taking part in the Euros in Germany from June 14th until, if Les Bleus make the final, 14th July, the national day of France, although Macron is optimistic about the eventuality:
“I hope he’ll be able to play in the Olympics. Concerning the Euros, I will travel to watch if we make the semi-finals, and the final is on July 14th!”
Mbappé’s potential participation is contingent on his club, which looks set to be Real Madrid, agreeing to release him for the tournament, despite being under no obligation to do so as the tournament falls outside of official FIFA windows. Furthermore, the Spaniards have already announced to the FFF that they do intend to release any of their French contingent for the tournament.
