Arsenal legend Ian Wright has fired an X-rated response regarding the incident between Joelinton and Gabriel Magalhaes moments before Anthony Gordon scored for Newcastle on Saturday. The Gunners defender appeared to be pushed in the back by his fellow countryman — but after VAR reviewed the incident, no foul was given.
Gary Neville agreed with VAR's decision not to award afoul on Gabriel — claiming the defender had stooped forward to try and clear the ball rather than be pushed by Joelinton. However, Wright clearly feels strongly about the incident after posting an explicit response on X (formerly Twitter) with a picture showing a new angle of the 'foul'.
«Bro. I’m done with people saying this is not a foul, 50 f****** 50,» Wright posted.
The Arsenal icon had vented his frustrations with the decision to let the goal stand on Saturday evening as a pundit — clashing with former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher regarding VAR's explanation that there was not enough conclusive evidence to disallow the goal.
«The whole of the ball has to be over the line and you can look at it from that angle and you can't tell, as Wrighty says, it's impossible to tell,» the former Premier League referee told Premier League Matchday Live. «The reason I say that is we see people take corners now and I often think that the ball is out of the circumference, but because it overhangs, they're allowed to play.
»I think that may be the problem with this because we can't be sure that part of that ball isn't hanging over the line. So on that basis there is no evidence to say the ball is out of play. That's how it is. It's only penalised if the ball is out of play."
