Arsenal legend Ian Wright has pinpointed what his former club 'have to learn' following a blunder from Ben White in the aftermath of their Champions League elimination to Bayern Munich.
The Gunners were knocked out of the Champions League by the German giants on Wednesday night, a defeat that came just days after their Premier League hopes were rocked by a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa. These back-to-back losses have sparked debate about whether Arsenal's season is over.
Mikel Arteta's side face a challenging few weeks as they aim for their first league title since 2004, with games against Tottenham and Manchester United still to come. Despite high confidence levels at the Emirates a fortnight ago, two consecutive losses may have impacted team morale.
Wright also highlighted fatigue as a potential issue, singling out Ben White's part in the Bayern goal on Wednesday as an example. On the Wrighty's House podcast, the ex-Arsenal striker said: «I know he must be absolutely knackered, gone.
»For him to be going across to close down a guy with that much time, just in and around the box to cross it into a very dangerous area where another load of our players were on their heels, it's what we've got to learn.
«That's why I will have patience with this team because they still have to learn those things. Then you do need, I don't care what anyone says, someone with X-factor, someone with a Kevin De Bruyne vibe, they make something happen.»
Wright's view that Arsenal needs more time to develop echoed Arteta's own comments after the Munich loss. The Arsenal manager acknowledged the team's inexperience, which he believes will improve over time.
I left Arsenal with Mikel Arteta and owe them a lot — now I'd play for free
