Ian Wright has vented his frustration following Arsenal's defeat to Bayern Munich. The German giants cruised past Mikel Arteta's side at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening, booking themselves a place in the Champions League semi-final.
Joshua Kimmich handed Bayern Munich the lead in the second half and, despite Arsenal's best efforts, the visitors couldn't find an equaliser. Speaking to the Stick To Football podcast ahead of the tie, Wright insisted the Gunners must be 'ruthless' in order to progress into the next round.
«I'd love Arsenal to win it [the Champions League],» said the 60-year-old. «If we got there, to the final with [Manchester] City, I'd feel more confident. We’ve got to be more ruthless with the chances – you’ve got to see games off so you can relax in games.
»At the moment we’re not taking those chances even though in the end we won the game, but if we could take those chances, I’d be more confident about going to play these teams because we’re defending a lot better."
Despite a forewarning, Arsenal ignored Wright's advice – and Arteta is certainly aware of his side's toothless frontline. Speaking to CBS Sports after the game, the Gunners boss admitted that he doesn't have a top number nine like many other top European teams.
When asked about a lack of returns from strikers in front of goal, he replied: «We have been the team that has scored more goals in the Premier League. From everywhere, because of the reality is we don't have a striker that is going to score 35 or 40 goals.
