Lionel Messi faces a race against time to be fit for Inter Miami's US Cup final clash against Houston Dynamo tonight.
The Messi in Miami era began with a Leagues Cup title triumph and now the Argentine can add even more silverware to his collection.
The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has scored 11 goals and registered five assists in 12 games since arriving in America this summer.
But the 36-year-old played just 37 minutes in the 4-0 win over Toronto FC last week before he was substituted due to injury.
Messi then missed the 1-1 draw with Florida rivals Orlando City at the weekend with fatigue and is now a doubt for the cup final.
“We imagine that he doesn't want to miss the very important final,” Miami boss Gerardo Martino said of the World Cup winner.
“In this case, yes I will sit down with him to see what his feelings are. … Here there are three questions: first the player, then the final, and then what comes next."
Martino added: “He doesn’t need surgery or anything like that. It’s just a matter of how much time the player needs to rest in order to play the next game. If it wasn’t a final, we wouldn’t take any risks. But because it’s a final, there is a chance we take that risk.”
The 2023 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup final will take place on Wednesday, September 27.
Kick-off at the DRV PNK Stadium in Florida is scheduled for 8:30pm local time, which is 1:30am on Thursday morning in the UK.
The game will be streamed on Paramount Plus in the UK, which is available as an add-on to Amazon Prime Video.
Paramount Plus can then be streamed online as well as via a wide range of connected TV devices via the Paramount Plus app.
talkSPORT will have updates throughout Thursday, while talkSPORT.com will be on hand for the best reaction as well.
