FC Nantes coach Antoine Kombouaré has taken aim at the Commission for discipline of the LFP for handing his team a one-game stadium ban for use of pyrotechnics in Les Canaris last home game against RC Strasbourg.
Speaking in his press conference ahead of this weekend’s home game with Olympique Lyonnais ( Sunday, 7:45pm), Kombouaré was scathing regarding what he considers to be an excessive punishment for his club:
“You’re trying to negotiate TV rights at the moment and you’re going to have no fans for the Sunday 8.45pm (CET) kick off! Since the commission intensified the sanctions, we haven’t seen less pyrotechnics. It’s completely absurd, absolutely nonsense. For me, pyrotechnics are part of the show!”
This stadium ban is part of a wider initiative from the league to clamp down on the usage of pyrotechnics by Ultras groups. Nantes Ultras, known as La Brigade Loire, set them off in the game against Strasbourg in order to celebrate their 25th anniversary.
Kombouaré’s side sit in 14th position in the Ligue 1, precariously only two points above the relegation play-off spot, currently occupied by FC Lorient.
