Jordan Henderson has conceded he found it difficult in Saudi Arabia after completing his move to Ajax.
The former Liverpool captain joined Al-Ettifaq from the Reds in a controversial £12m deal last summer, but called time on his lucrative stint in the Middle East after just six months. Terminating his contract with the club, he completed a free transfer to Ajax on Thursday.
Speaking in his first interview with the club, the 33-year-old shared his excitement at joining the Dutch giants. And admitting it had been a crazy week, he alluded to his struggles in the Middle East.
“I’m not sure, it’s been a bit of a whirlwind, a crazy few days, but I’m just so excited now to be here,” he told the club when asked how his move had happened. “Start a new chapter, a new journey in my life and my career.

“I’m just so excited to be here and be part of this club. Ajax as a football club speaks for itself. World class players that have played here for many, many years.
“Once I knew there was an opportunity, I was over-excited and really just overwhelmed that this opportunity was there for me. It was something that I wanted to try and make happen.
“It’s very humbling for me to be here now, I’m just trying to take it all in really. A special, special day.”
