James Maddison and Heung-min Son score landmark goals as Tottenham return to top of Premier League
James Maddison scored his first home goal for Tottenham as they cruised to a 2-0 win at home to Fulham on Monday night.
The England star, who's settled in brilliantly since signing from Leicester, calmly slid the ball past the onrushing Bernd Leno on 54 minutes after Calvin Bassey's clearance was intercepted by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Spurs' opener also came off the back of a Bassey error as his pass was met by Hojbjerg, who played the ball to Richarlison before captain Heung-min Son received it and beautifully curled into the top right-hand corner.
The strike on 36 minutes is Son's 50th at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Mohamed Salah (65 at Anfield) and Harry Kane (62 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium) the only players to net more at one stadium since Spurs' ground opened in April 2019.
Victory sees Ange Postecoglou's men return to the top of the Premier League as Manchester City went top with their win against Brighton on Saturday.
But the spot at the summit of the top flight now belongs to Spurs, who hold a two-point lead over City and third-placed Arsenal.
Spurs have made their best start since they last became English champions in their famous double-winning campaign in the 1960/61 season.
They've won seven of their nine matches and are yet to taste defeat.
Next up for Postecoglou's pace-setters is a trip to Crystal Palace on Friday where they could extend their lead at the top to five points with another win.
This was Spurs' first home match since the Israel-Hamas conflict started and a moment's silence occurred before kick-off for the innocent civilians killed, during which several Israeli flags were held up by supporters in different areas of the stadium.
