The Premier League table makes for very good reading for Tottenham Hotspur fans at present. Victorious at Selhurst Park on Friday evening as they secured a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, Ange Postecoglou's men now have a five-point cushion at the summit of the Premier League table after ten games.
While of course that lead will very likely be reduced this weekend with Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool all intent on closing in on Tottenham, the fact that Spurs are leading the way with eight wins and two draws so far is remarkable. For their eighth victory of the league season, Postecoglou's team really had to dig in deep to come away from south London with maximum points.
Limited to very little in the first half with Crystal Palace frustrating them and ensuring they got next to no joy in the final third, Tottenham were handed a huge boost eight minutes after the restart when Joel Ward put the ball through his own net from James Maddison's shot. Thirteen minutes later and it was 2-0 as Son Heung-min doubled the scoreline from close range.
The goal came from some excellent play from the visitors, with substitute Brennan Johnson playing a major role only two minutes after his introduction. Expertly heading Pape Matar Sarr's long pass into Maddison's path, the Wales international then linked up with his teammate and put the ball on a plate for the Spurs captain to finish off.
