Jamie Carragher believes Mikel Arteta was right to bring in David Raya over the summer as the Arsenal goalkeeping debate rumbles on. Raya joined Arsenal from Brentford on loan for an initial fee of £3million and it's understood the Gunners have an option to buy the Spaniard for £27million next summer.
Raya's arrival has led to question marks over the future of Aaron Ramsdale, who has lost his place in the Arsenal starting line-up. Despite starting the Gunners' first four games Ramsdale has found himself on the bench for the previous three fixtures, with Raya starting in his place.
Mikel Arteta has faced dozens of questions regarding the goalkeeping situation at the Emirates Stadium but has stopped short of naming one of Raya or Ramsdale as his number one. «I suffer with every player who’s not playing but my job is to make decisions,» Arteta said last week before the North London Derby. «He’s [Ramsdale] been very supportive and that’s what I expect from every player. So far he’s been really, really good.»
Ahead of Arsenal's Carabao Cup third round clash against Brentford on Wednesday night, with both Raya and Ramsdale in contention to play, Jamie Carragher has given his opinion on the goalkeeping situation at the north London club.
