Both Ireland boss Stephen Kenny and Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom will have to do without key centre-half John Egan for the next "while".
Egan limped out of Saturday’s defeat at West Ham United with a leg injury and wasn't expected to return until after the international break.
But now, United boss Heckingbottom has suggested that the Cork native could be stuck on the sidelines for a little longer than first expected.
Speaking to media on Thursday, Heckingbottom noted that Egan will see a specialist in the coming days.
"He's out. He's going to be out for a while. Another one, I don't know what we've done wrong, who we've upset, but yes, it's another big injury for us.
"He's going to see the specialist tomorrow and then we'll have more of an idea. He's going to be out a while.
"It's a blow. I can't deny that. We want everyone fit and we'd have the options in the starting XI, we'd have the options from the bench, but we haven't got that.
"But again, that's an opportunity for the others and that's how we have to address it and that will continue to be how we do things."
Ireland and Greece meet on Friday week at Aviva Stadium in what is effectively a battle for third spot. Ireland boss Kenny has bolstered the central defensive ranks in Egan's absence by calling up in-form Celtic left-sided defender Liam Scales.
Nathan Collins, Shane Duffy, Dara O'Shea, Andrew Omobamidele are the other viable defensive options at Kenny's disposal.
