Liverpool, via manager Jurgen Klopp, have called for Saturday's Premier League clash between Tottenham and the Reds to be replayed. And granting their wish would be extraordinarily unprecedented.

Replays because of mistakes made during matches just do not happen. Arsenal offered to replay an FA Cup clash with Sheffield United in 1999 after Marc Overmars scored when Arsenal were attempting to throw the ball back to the Blades after it had been kicked out on purpose to deal with an injury.

Nwankwo Kanu and Overmars did not understand and scored what turned out to be the winning goal in unsportsmanlike circumstances. Arsenal offered a rematch in the aftermath and won that too.

There are no other examples in the modern era. Yes, Liverpool were hard done by; yes Luis Diaz's goal should have stood. But should we replay the game? Absolutely not.

Doing so would open a huge can of worms and has already led to a plethora of calls on social media from fans of numerous different clubs that matches in their history should be replayed.
