Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison has jokingly taken a swipe at Liverpool fans protesting their controversial Premier League clash from last month. Spurs beat Jurgen Klopp’s side 2-1 thanks to a last-gasp Joe Matip own goal but it was refereeing decisions that dominated the headlines.
The Reds were incorrectly denied a goal when VAR incorrectly ruled out Luis Diaz’s opener for offside. Klopp, as well as large sections of the Liverpool fanbase, have since urged for the game to be replayed, something Maddison has now mocked.
The former Leicester City playmaker posted a picture of him and Reds defender Trent Alexander-Arnold on his Instagram story. The caption poked fun at the situation, reading: «Still asking for a replay (sleeping emoji) (laughing emoji) (heart emoji).»
Spurs put the controversy to one side at the weekend when they travelled to newly-promoted Luton Town on Saturday afternoon. Despite going down to ten men in the first half following a Yves Bissouma sending-off, Ange Postecoglou’s side secured all three points thanks to a Micky van de Ven winner in the second half.
That result leaves the north Londoners sitting top of the Premier League table going into the international break, above local rivals Arsenal on goals scored. Next up for Tottenham is a home fixture against Marco Silva’s Fulham on Monday, October 23.
