Jose Mourinho took a savage shot at Tottenham's 'empty trophy cabinet' while speaking to John Obi Mikel on his podcast.
The Roma manager was sacked by Tottenham just two days before they were set to take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final in 2021.
It meant coaching novice Ryan Mason was in the dugout as Spurs were defeated 1-0 by City, with cup-final specialist Mourinho still baffled to this day.
Speaking on Mikel's The Obi One Podcast on YouTube, the former Manchester United and Chelsea boss brought up the incident — with a sly dig at his old club.
“The most ridiculous one was a club that has an empty trophy room sacks me two days before a final,” he said.
“That was the one that was… come on!
“Tottenham have never won for 50 years. I don’t remember when.
«I am two days before a final and I couldn’t do the final. It’s the one which doesn’t smell well.»
Ex-Man City defender Aymeric Laporte scored the only goal of the Carabao Cup final that year.
Meanwhile, Mourinho became manager at Roma shortly after getting the sack at Tottenham.
In Italy, The Special One has since lifted the Europa Conference League and has high hopes of winning the Europa League this season.
Mourinho has won trophies with most clubs he has been with including United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Porto and Roma but not with Spurs.
