Julian Nagelsmann has sent a warning to Xabi Alonso as speculation regarding the Spaniard’s managerial future ramps up.
Liverpool legend Alonso is enjoying an incredible season in charge of Bayer Leverkusen, with his side currently boasting an eight-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga table. Also through to the DFB-Pokal semi-finals and Europa League round-of-16, they are chasing a treble as a result.
Yet Leverkusen, who have never previously won the Bundesliga, were second from bottom when Alonso took over as manager in October 2022. Overseeing a miraculous transformation in his 16 months in charge to date, he is now looking to become the first manager to stop Bayern Munich winning the league since Jurgen Klopp with Borussia Dortmund in 2011/12.
Both Liverpool and Bayern Munich will be looking to appoint new managers in the months ahead, after Klopp confirmed last month that he would stand down in the summer after nine years in charge of the Reds. Meanwhile, it was announced earlier this week that Thomas Tuchel and the Bavarians had mutually agreed to terminate his contract a year early at the end of the season.
