Jack Wilshere could help Arsenal could save millions on a new striker in the upcoming transfer window. The Gunners have been heavily linked with the likes of Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres and Joshua Zirkzee recently as Mikel Arteta hopes to bolster his frontline.
A marquee signing comes at a price though and, with the Premier League clamping down on those who breach their profit and sustainability rules, Arsenal could be inclined to save their pennies this summer. Fortunately for Arteta, Jack Wilshere has been working with a striker who's been 'developing nicely' in the academy.
Chido Obi-Martin has featured 10 times for the Gunners in the Under-18 Premier League, scoring eight goals – four of which came against Crystal Palace last weekend. Arsenal stormed past the Eagles at London Colney on Saturday, winning 8-3.
In an interview with the official club website, Wilshere lauded the 16-year-old striker for the 'real personality' he showcased. The former Gunners midfielder said: «Individually and collectively you have to have personality. Chido for example, scoring four goals.
»You have to have personality to keep creating chances and drive that throughout the team and then manage transitions by winning duels and coaching each other. I saw a lot of personality out there today which makes me happy."
Wilshere added: «I’m proud of the team because, for a striker to score four, he needs his teammates, his midfielders and defenders, but it’s the hardest thing in football and to do it four times as an under-16 in under-18s football takes some real personality.
