Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Dominik Szoboszlai suffered a hamstring injury in Liverpool’s 4-2 victory over Newcastle United on New Year’s Day.
A Mohamed Salah brace and goals from Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo clinched victory for the Reds to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to three points. However, they lost Szoboszlai to injury just after the hour-mark, with the Hungarian replaced by Ryan Gravenberch in the 64th minute.
Speaking after the final whistle, Klopp confirmed that the midfielder had suffered a hamstring injury but was unable to confirm how long his side could be left without the 23-year-old’s services.
“Yeah (he came off because of injury). We wanted to take him off,” he told reporters. “It was the plan but unfortunately it was a minute late because in the last situation he felt the hamstring.
