Jurgen Klopp admits he would not have given Mohamed Salah 90 minutes in the 6-1 hammering of Sparta Prague had it not been for injuries elsewhere.
Salah made just his second start of the calendar year on Thursday night and scored his 20th of the campaign to reach the milestone for the seventh successive season at Anfield.
But despite only recently returning from a hamstring issue that has plagued his 2024, Salah was made to play the entire game in the last-16 of the Europa League due to a second-half problem for Bobby Clark when four substitutes had already been made.
Klopp said that wasn't part of the plan but talked up his top goalscorer ahead of Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final at Manchester United.

“Mo is super good, you saw it last night, how many goals did he set up in the first half? He scored and was involved in all the others pretty much," Klopp said.
"Exceptional. It was a strange game in second half, I would have loved to take him off but it was not possible because of Bobby Clark's situation and he could manage that pretty well.
"Even then he set up another goal which was offside. Mo is pure quality. Ask him what he likes most about Man Utd but the more we talk about it the less likely it will happen again.
"Exceptional guy, a world-class player and how we dealt without him was unbelievable. Unbelievable. The boys did really well but it is better to have him around and on the pitch than just in the dressing room. We could build it now with minutes and he is ready for Sunday."
Liverpool have scored 117 goals across all competitions
