Jamie Redknapp has labelled Harry Kane's £100million switch to Bayern Munich as 'one of the bravest moves' a Premier League player has ever made.
The long-running saga surrounding Kane's future at Tottenham, where he has played for 14 years, finally came to a head on Friday night when he arrived in Munich to put pen to paper to join the German champions.
Kane has come in for criticism in some quarters for going to a team that has such a stranglehold on success in their own country but for Redknapp it is a move that shows team accolades, rather than individual ones, mean the most to the England striker.
'People questioned Harry Kane for a long while for having lack of ambition when he didn't go to Manchester City a couple of years ago,' Redknapp said. 'You can't say that about him now.
'This is one of the bravest moves I've ever seen a Premier League player make.'
Redknapp was reflecting on Kane's departure at Sky Sports' Opening Night of the Premier League event in London and he was struck at the dismissive tone around Bayern Munich as a club.
'People look down on Bayern Munich for whatever reason; it's one of the biggest clubs in the world,' he added.
'The players get treated like kings, they try and win every title, they try to get the best players in. I get it, it's going to be a great move for him. It's surprised a lot of people but I think it's an exciting move for him.'
Kane has got off to a rough start at Bayern, seeing his first chance of a trophy in Germany end in disappointment as his cameo was not enough to inspire his new team to victory in a 3-0 loss to RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup.
And while all eyes are on his exploits at Bayern, the key question fans critical of the move are asking is: will he ever return
