Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna is reporting that Kasper Schmeichel (36) won’t play for OGC Nice until his future at the club is resolved.
Schmeichel, who made the move from Leicester to Nice last season, was the club’s number one last campaign. After a difficult start to life at the club, which say the Danish shot-stopper booed by his own fans, Schmeichel turned things around in the second half of the season and produced some key performances.
It was reported earlier this week by L’Équipe that Marcin Bulka, a former academy product at Paris Saint-Germain, was set to be chosen as the number one this season, ahead of Schmeichel. The French publication added that, whoever was chosen as backup would not remain at the club beyond the end of the transfer window.
With just a day to go until Nice’s Ligue 1 opener against Lille OSC, Aouna is now reporting that Schmeichel will not feature again for Les Aiglons before his future is resolved. The likelihood is that the former Leicester City goalkeeper will leave the Riviera club this summer, and should that happen, Premier League sides are interested in sweeping him up.
