Kylian Mbappe is on a collision course with Real Madrid after revealing his Olympic ambitions.
The Frenchman continues to be linked with a big-money move to the Spanish side this summer. His contract with current employers Paris Saint-Germain expires in a matter of months.
Real Madrid would then be able to swoop for him on a free transfer, and it has already been revealed that they are willing to break the bank to commit him to a contract. But he could leave his new employers disgruntled straight away by playing at the Olympics, which takes place in Paris this summer.
Confirming his ambitions to play at the Games, Mbappe said: "I have always had the same ambition. I have always said that I wanted to go [to the Olympics] but it doesn't depend on me.
"I can't say anything because no one has told me anything. If I can't do the Olympics so be it ... When I say no one has told me anything, I am talking about PSG. I am under contract with PSG and they haven't said anything [about the Olympics]. We haven't discussed it," he added.
While Mbappe has expressed his intent to represent France at the Olympics, Real Madrid might have something to say about that. According to ESPN, the Spanish side have sent an email to the French Football Federation confirming that they are not releasing their players for the Games.
As it stands, that would include midfielders Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga - while Mbappe would join that group once he becomes a Real Madrid player. The Olympics are usually an under-23 tournament but teams are permitted three overage players.
The Olympics football tournament is due to take place from July 24 to August 9. It is not yet known whether that would overlap with the 2024/25 La Liga season with the schedule
